About the IABE Scholarship…
The Idaho Association for Bilingual Education, Inc., is a non-profit organization established in 1979 for the purpose of furthering the goals of bilingual education. It recognizes, promotes, and publicizes excellence in education by promoting bilingual education as a sound process by which the educational success for students learning English is enhanced by learning through their first language while concurrently learning the English language.
Members of the faculty and staff generously contributed funds to establish this scholarship as part of the Boise State University Bilingual Education Teacher Education Program. Even though the scholarship is administered through the BSU Foundation, in 1998, it was transferred to the Idaho Association for Bilingual Education, Inc. Over the years, IABE members have contributed thousands of dollars to the fund. The IABE Scholarship Committee receives applications and recommends a candidate to the Board of Directors from among those who qualify.
The scholarship is given to persons who will be juniors or seniors in college or who are graduate students and who desire to become bilingual education / ESL teachers. They must be willing to make a personal commitment to complete a program of study at a college or university in Idaho or at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon, which culminates in a standard elementary or secondary teaching certificate from the State of Idaho and / or endorsement in bilingual education and / or English as a Second Language. Once students have been awarded the scholarship, they may continue to receive it (so long as funds are available) until graduation upon the following conditions:
